Course Description

This course looks at writing from perspectives that extend beyond one’s own personal experience. Together, we’ll look at the conventional wisdom of "writing what you know" and participants will engage in candid discussions regarding the ethical considerations and responsibilities associated with representing unfamiliar perspectives. Through writing exercises and reading plays that portray identities that transcend the writer’s own, students will investigate the fine line between imagination and experience. The course provides a supportive environment for writers to explore writing from varying perspectives, develop community, and receive constructive peer feedback.
