Experiential Learning at The Chang School

Experiential Learning is learning by doing, as well as deliberately reflecting, and building on previous knowledge by testing ideas and practicing skills. The Chang School recognizes the value of experiential learning in fostering student success and employability.

Experiential, project-based capstone courses are offered as an integral part of some of our certificate and course series programs. Learners gain practical, hands-on experience and develop professional skills as they contribute their knowledge of in-class theory to real-world, project-based experiential initiatives benefiting our partner organizations.

The Capstone course project-based style of learning offers students the opportunity to apply certificate course content as they obtain real-life experience, deepening knowledge and enhancing new skills. In the course of the Capstone, students network with professionals in a given field while accomplishing a significant project in real time.

A key benefit is an opportunity to reflect upon how their lived experiences and personal beliefs may shape both their actions and the context in which they carry out their work.
