Cancellations

Every effort is made to adhere to the details outlined on this website, although courses, fees, days, hours of instruction, or instructors are subject to change without prior notice. If it is necessary to cancel a class or a course, Toronto Metropolitan University and The Chang School will connect with the university community and affected students through a variety of methods to provide information and next steps.

Cancelled Classes

Cancelled classes – whether due to instructor illness or inclement weather – will be rescheduled. Your instructor will provide details about how the missed class will be made up.

If your class is cancelled because of instructor illness, we will make every effort to notify you; check your online D2L course shell for updates as well. Be sure to provide up-to-date contact information (phone and email) when you enrol so we can reach you.

If your class is cancelled because of inclement weather, you can receive details about the cancellation through the following resources.

  • Check the campus alert banner posted on The Chang School’s home page or TMU’s home page.
  • Visit The Chang School on social media (@ChangSchoolTMU) for updates.
  • Download the TMU Safe app and Chang+ app to receive alerts on your phone.
  • Subscribe to “TORONTOMU” at 723-389 to get alerts sent to you by text message. Standard message and data rates may apply.
  • Call TMU at 416-979-5000 for a message about campus closures.

Review the university’s Campus Closure Policy for more information about how closure decisions are made.

For long weekends that include a statutory holiday, on the Saturday of a three-day holiday weekend, scheduled classes will be held as usual unless the instructor notifies students otherwise. Visit Important Dates for statutory holidays observed by Toronto Metropolitan University.

Cancelled Courses

Occasionally, courses are cancelled prior to the course start date; we will notify you via your TMU email If this happens. You may then pursue one of the following options.

  • Transfer to another section of that course if an alternate is available.
  • Transfer to another course.
  • Receive a refund (if no action is taken).

Refunds take up to 15 business days to process and will be made in the same tender type as the payment. Questions? Contact the ServiceHub at 416-979-5036.

You may transfer from one course to another if:

  • The transfer is to another course taking place within the same term
  • There is space available in the new course
  • The term’s transfer deadline has not passed
  • You meet any enrolment requirements for the new course (check the course’s information page for details)
