Our music courses promote skill building and community involvement through singing, learning, and socializing.

The music program is one of the only life long learning programs in Canada that offers music courses that are partnered with two research labs at Ryerson University: Stress and Healthy Aging Research (StAR) and SMART Lab at Ryerson University, Department of Psychology.

The SMART Lab and Dr. Frank Russo, Lab Director and Music Program Coordinator for the Programs for 50+ Music Program, helped develop our music program courses based on the following four components for maintaining good cognitive health:

  1. Hearing and Cognition
  2. Self-Expression
  3. Social Connection
  4. Wellness

In addition to singing courses, students also have the opportunity to participate in research projects on cognitive health and its importance in overall brain health for older adults with the two partner labs.
